A carbuncle cure for the Harten-Lax-van Leer contact (HLLC) scheme using a novel velocity-based sensor

Abstract A hybrid numerical flux scheme is proposed by adapting the carbuncle-free modified Harten-Lax-van Leer contact (HLLCM) to smoothly revert (HLLC) in regions of shear. This scheme, referred as HLLCT employs a novel, velocity-based shear sensor. In contrast non-local pressure-based shock sensors often used carbuncle cures, sensor can be computed localized manner meaning that easily introduced into existing codes without having implement additional data structures. Through experiments, it shown able resolve layers accurately succumbing instability.
